Notify me when printing opens

Leave your email and we'll write to you once, when printed posters can be ordered. Nothing is for sale yet.

We keep only your email, the time you signed up and whether you had previewed a tree, plus a scrambled form of your network address for up to about three hours to limit repeat signups. Ask support@branchwall.com to remove it any time. The address is used only for that one email, which will say why you received it.

Export a .ged file from your family tree program

  • Ancestry, MyHeritage and Family Tree Maker: step-by-step export guides, plus a note on FamilySearch (which no longer exports GEDCOM from its own site).
  • RootsMagic: look for Export under the File menu and choose GEDCOM.
  • Gramps: use Export in the Family Trees menu and choose GEDCOM.

FAQ

GEDCOM viewer questions

Is my GEDCOM file uploaded?

No. The page reads your file inside your browser and draws the chart there. The file and the people in it are not sent to us and are not stored. Reload the page and they are gone.

Which programs export a GEDCOM file?

Most family tree programs and websites can export a .ged file, including Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilySearch partner apps, Family Tree Maker, RootsMagic and Gramps. Step-by-step guides for Ancestry, MyHeritage and Family Tree Maker are linked on this page, plus a note on FamilySearch (which no longer exports GEDCOM from its own site).

How big a tree can it show?

Every person reachable from the home person you pick, in the view you pick, with no cap on generations. Very large trees are easier to read by choosing a different home person, such as one grandparent, and the Descendants or Ancestors view.

Can I save the chart as a PDF?

Not yet. The viewer is for looking at your tree on screen. Printed posters are coming soon; join the list on this page and we will email you once when they open.

Does it show photos, notes or places?

No. It reads names, birth and death years and the family links between people. Photos, notes, places and sources in the file are ignored.

What happens to living people?

People who may be living are shown by name only, with no dates, and one switch hides them from the chart.
